At Growing With Kid, we believe in minimal data collection and maximum transparency. This page explains exactly what data we collect, how we use it, and what we don't do with your information.

Our Commitment to Minimal Data

Growing With Kid operates on a principle of minimal data collection. We only collect what is absolutely necessary to provide our services safely and effectively.

Our Data Principles:

  • Collect only what's needed for service delivery
  • Never sell your data to third parties
  • Never use data for advertising or marketing
  • Never create behavioral profiles of children
  • Give parents full control over their data
  • Comply with COPPA and GDPR principles

What Data We Collect

Parent Account Information

  • Email address: Required for account creation and communication
  • Name: Optional, used for personalization
  • Authentication data: Securely stored by Supabase Auth (encrypted passwords, session tokens)

Child Profile Information

We collect minimal information about your child:

  • Name: Used for personalization (e.g., "Hi, [Name]" in stories)
  • Age range: Used to recommend age-appropriate content (e.g., 3-5, 6-8)
  • Language preference: Used to serve content in preferred language

Important: We do NOT collect child email addresses, phone numbers, location data, school information, or any other personally identifiable information beyond name and age range.

Usage Data

We collect basic usage information to improve our services:

  • Content accessed: Which stories or products you've viewed/downloaded
  • Listening history: Stories listened to via Bolo Buddy (for parent dashboard)
  • Favorites: Stories or products marked as favorites
  • Session data: Basic analytics (pages visited, time spent) - anonymized

Payment Information

Payment processing is handled securely by Razorpay. We do NOT store your full payment card details. We only store transaction IDs and order information necessary for order fulfillment and refunds.

Voice Recordings (Bolo Buddy)

If you use Bolo Buddy voice features, voice recordings may be temporarily stored for transcription purposes. These recordings are encrypted, never shared with third parties, and can be deleted by parents at any time.

How We Use Your Data

We use collected data only for the following purposes:

  • Service Delivery: To provide access to digital products, Bolo Buddy stories, and platform features
  • Personalization: To recommend age-appropriate content and customize experiences (e.g., using child's name in stories)
  • Account Management: To manage your account, process payments, and handle support requests
  • Communication: To send order confirmations, service updates, and respond to inquiries
  • Platform Improvement: To analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve our services
  • Security: To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security threats
  • Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws and regulations

We do NOT:

  • Create behavioral profiles of children
  • Use data for advertising or marketing
  • Train AI models on child data without explicit consent
  • Share data with third parties for marketing purposes
  • Use data to manipulate or influence children

What We DON'T Collect

To protect your privacy and your child's privacy, we explicitly do NOT collect:

  • Precise Location Data: We only collect IP addresses (anonymized) for security purposes
  • Device Identifiers: We don't track devices across sessions
  • Behavioral Tracking: No tracking pixels, cookies for advertising, or cross-site tracking
  • Social Media Data: We don't access or collect social media profiles
  • School Information: No school names, teacher names, or educational records
  • Health Information: No medical or health-related data
  • Biometric Data: No fingerprints, facial recognition, or voiceprints (beyond temporary transcription)
  • Third-Party Data: We don't purchase or acquire data from data brokers

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do NOT sell your data. We do NOT share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

Service Providers

We work with trusted service providers who help us operate our platform:

  • Supabase: Database and authentication (data stored securely with encryption)
  • Razorpay: Payment processing (PCI DSS compliant, no full card details stored)
  • OpenAI: AI services for Bolo Buddy (voice transcription, story generation)
  • Vercel: Hosting and content delivery
  • PostHog: Product analytics (anonymized data only)

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for service delivery.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.

Data Storage and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • Encryption: Data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest (database encryption)
  • Row Level Security (RLS): Database-level access controls ensure users can only access their own data
  • Secure Authentication: Supabase Auth with secure password hashing
  • Regular Security Audits: We regularly review and update our security practices
  • Access Controls: Limited access to personal data on a need-to-know basis
  • Secure Storage: Data stored in secure Supabase databases with backups

Data Location: Your data is stored in secure Supabase databases. While we are based in India, data may be stored in servers located in various regions. We ensure all data transfers comply with applicable data protection laws.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as necessary to provide our services:

  • Account Data: Retained while your account is active
  • Child Profiles: Retained until deleted by parent or account deletion
  • Transaction Records: Retained for 7 years for tax and legal compliance
  • Usage Data: Retained for service improvement (aggregated, anonymized)
  • Voice Recordings: Deleted immediately upon user request or account deletion
  • Deleted Accounts: Data is permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion request

You can request deletion of your data at any time through your account settings or by contacting us.

Parent Controls and Rights

You have full control over your data and your child's data:

  • Access: View all data associated with your account through your dashboard
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information anytime
  • Deletion: Delete child profiles, voice recordings, or your entire account
  • Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from communications (we don't send marketing emails currently)
  • Child Profile Management: Create, edit, or delete child profiles at any time

Compliance (COPPA and GDPR)

COPPA Compliance

We follow COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) principles:

  • Only parents can create accounts (no child accounts)
  • Minimal data collection from children (name and age range only)
  • No behavioral profiling of children
  • Parental consent and control over child data
  • No data sharing with third parties for marketing

GDPR Awareness

While we are based in India, we respect GDPR principles for international users:

  • Right to access, rectify, and delete personal data
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing
  • Transparent data practices
  • Secure data handling
